Choosing a Kitchen Backsplash
Tiles offer design and protection with stylish eye appeal
Backsplashes are the vertical wall areas above the sink, range and countertops and below the upper cabinets. Most people refer to the area behind the sink and oven control as the backsplash as this is where water and cooking splashes occur. It's a high visibility region and also highly susceptible to dirt and grease.
Choosing tiles over paint adds much needed protection, but also costs more and maintenance becomes an issue for some tiling.
Backsplash tile types:
Ceramic Glass Veneer
Stone
Metal
Decorative tiled backsplashes look great with solid color countertops. Many design options are available since the
tiles don't bear much weight on vertical walls. Light colored kitchen backsplashes will brighten a kitchen that has
dark cabinets and counters while darker backsplashes create warmth to larger open spaces.
Installing a kitchen backsplash is manageable for most homeowners. Planning and cutting your tile is probably the toughest task involved in the installation especially if you are using a patterned tile design. Be sure and use tile mastic rather than mortar. It's stronger holding power is ideal for vertical tiles. Also buy any border pieces from the same place you buy your main tile.
Your backsplash tiles will add tremendous appeal, value and protection for your kitchen walls. Choose your own design and turn that plain kitchen into perfection!
