Kitchen Islands add style and storage

Stationary or floating options for your island

When selcting a permanent island for you kitchen your options become almost endless. Add an extra cooking unit or refrigeration below. Wine storage beneath your island is also a nice idea and added feature. Of course the added cabinet space is great with roll-away drawers being a nice option for easy access!

The cost can add up with the cooking and cooling features obviously and this is a major drawback on these options.

Ideas to consider for your kitchen island design:
  • floating or permanent - Small kitchens often do well with a mobile island as it can be conveniently moved for space accomodations.
  • Matching your wall cabinets - Most people want to match woods, colors, handle hardware although an island with a diffent appearance can break up the monotony of one style decor.
  • Countertops - Pleny of choices exitst from Formica and Corian to butcherblock and Ceramic tiles. Creative borders around square kitchen islands are a creative idea and provide unique appeal.
  • Size and Shape - Will the added storage and function be worth it? Do you have a dining table in your kitchen?
  • Cooking, refrigeration, sinks and electric outlets - All of these features are great, but add more plannig and expense to your island.
  • Built-in cabinets and drawers - Consider the depth and width you desire. Deep roll-out drawers or cabinet doors should be considered
  • Overhead lighting - Be sure to provide enough especially if your kitchen island is large. Direct task lighting may be needed. Hanging Pendants are a stylish feature.
  • Seating - Some islands can accomodate bar-type seating and even tiered counters for dining.

Add novelty storing choices for wine and liquor

Make one side of your island into wine or liquor storage. Exposed wine racks add great style and character to a kitchen plus the storing feature allows for quick access to your favorite table and cooking wines.

Kitchen islands will provide years of service while adding to the value of your home. Choose the right options and styles and turn your island remodeling ideas into reality!
