Installing Self-Adhesive Vinyl Floor Tiles

Create a brand new look for your kitchen floor.

Inexpensive and easy to install, self adhesive tiles can transform your kitchen in a matter of ours!

Tools you'll need:
  1. Tape Measure
  2. Chalk Line
  3. Framing Square
  4. Utility Knife
Self adhesive vinyl tiles can be installed on most smooth flooring underlayments, concrete or existing vinyl tiles.

Preparing your floor underlayment:
  • Make sure the surface is smooth and free of dust, dirt, grease, oil, etc.
  • Fill any cracks, holes or screwheads with floor leveling compound.
  • Use vinyl floor leveler if you are installing on existing vinyl tiles.
Steps and process for Installation
  1. Use your chalk line and snap two perpendicular lines from the center of two opposing walls (Diag. 1). This creates four quadrants on your kitchen floor.
  2. Without removing the backing, lay the tiles out from the center of where the lines cross. If the layment is not visually suitable (Diag.2), re-strike your guidelines and start again.
  3. Start laying your vinyl tiles. Peel off the backing to expose the self-stick side of the tile. Press down firmly to ensure total contact.
  4. Fill in one quadrant at a time.
  5. For cutting vinyl tiles to the appropriate size when approaching a wall, Lay a full tile EXACTLY on top of the last FULL tile that is already installed. Now butt another tile against the wall and on top of the first tile. This will give you the perfect sized tile to install against the wall.
  6. If you need to install tiles around pipes, it is often best to make a cardboard template first and then use it to cut your self adesive tile.
  7. If you have access to a Flooring Roller, go back and forth over your kitchen floor to ensure your self-adhesive tiles have fully bonded.
Laying out and installing your vinyl tiles is fairly easy for most homeowners. Preparation and patience are key!
