Create wine storage from existing space

Closets with wine racks are a great feature to any kitchen and can often be made with storage that you already have. For many homes both new and old, kitchens often contain closets for laundry or food storage that can be easily converted to classic wine storage.

Things to consider for your wine closet

Full length floor cabinets make for great wine storage, but don't sacrifice everyday kitchen storage for your wine.
Glass diplay doors add great dimension and can be used as a showcase to your kitchen.
Use a similar hardwood rack as your cabinets for your wine. (or stain to equal coloring)
Consider the depth of your wine racks. Do you want double bottle depth for more storage?

Hardwood racks to match your cabinets

Maple is a great wood for your wine racks. Different stains are available and can be made to match your cabinet colors. Many sizes are available along with custom made corner racks. Store magnums or conventional size bottles. Depending on the size of your wine cabinet, a cooling unit could be added.

If you have the extra storage space and wine is a mainstay in your kitchen, consider building your own wine closet. It's a great feature to any custom home and kitchen.
